"Art On Gourds"

As a graduate of Cleveland State University with a degree in studio art, I have worked with a variety of media, but have found none as versatile and interesting as the natural dried gourd. It is a material that has been used for centuries by countless by countless cultures around the world for both decorative and utilitarian purposes.
Having spent time in Central America and having studied scientific illustration, the majority of my art and design is influenced by nature and by ancient culture. Much of my imagery is realistic, yet some is stylized with a slight art nouveau influence.
I have found that I can apply many techniques to the creation of a piece of gourd art, some of my favorites being drawing & woodburning, painting, carving and adding mixed media sculpture. Among my favorite types of projects are covered containers, bowls, vases, & masks.
I also work with watercolor, pen & ink drawing, colored pencil, & mural painting.
Please contact me by phone or e-mail for further information on my artwork.
